Basic Approach

In the MinebeaMitsumi Group Environmental Policy, the item "contribution to the international community" states that we recognize that our business activities may have an effect on biodiversity and ecosystems, and that we will work to conserve nature.

Yonago Plant Employees Clean up Nakaumi and Lake Shinji (Japan)

In June 2017, 49 MinebeaMitsumi Yonago Plant employees pitched in to help with a cleanup campaign aimed at protecting the shores of Lakes Nakaumi and Shinji.

The cleanup campaign, run by five lakeshore municipalities in the area (Tottori Prefecture: Yonago, Sakaiminato; Shimane Prefecture: Matsue, Yasugi, and Izumo), is held every year in order to clean up the lakes' surroundings, which are important wetlands protected under the Ramsar Convention. A total of 7,867 people participated this year from the five municipalities. Further, 1,102 people participated from Yonago, picking up a total of 3.8 tons of trash.

Mitsumi Yamagata Business Division Joins Zao Cleanup Operation (Japan)

In June 2017, MinebeaMitsumi Group's Mitsumi Yamagata Business Division participated in the Zao Cleanup Operation.

Held for the 43rd time, the Zao Cleanup Operation is organized by the Committee for Promotion of the Movement to Beautify Yamagata City, the Zao Onsen Tourism Association, and the City of Yamagata. The event aims to foster an appreciation of nature's importance through cleanup activities that protect plant and animal life and natural resources in the Zao Mountain Range. It encompasses a wide area, from the peak of Mt. Zao (Kumanodake, elev. 1,841m) to the ski area and hiking courses at the foot of the mountains. Endorsing these goals, the Mitsumi Yamagata Business Division has participated in the event every time since 2013.

On the event day, a total of 700 people divided into 11 teams went to Mt. Zao and collected a combined total of 45 kg of trash. Four employees from the Yamagata Business Division participated.

Mitsumi Atsugi Operation Base Participates in Beautification Activities at Sagami River (Japan)

Thirty-one employees from MinebeaMitsumi Group's Mitsumi Atsugi Operation Base participated in beautification activities at the nearby Sagami River.

It was part of the Central Kanagawa Sagami River Summit, Six Municipality Joint Cleanup Campaign to protect the beautiful environment around Sagami River. Getting an early start at 7:30 a.m., participants picked up empty cans, plastic bottles, glass and other trash and put them into plastic bags they carried in hand.

For Mitsumi Atsugi Operation Base, this Sagami River cleanup campaign has become an annual event with many employees even participating with their families.

After the cleanup, 5,000 ayu juveniles were released into the Sagami River.

Forest Protection Project (Thailand)

From April to November 2017, NMB-Minebea Thai carried out a project to preserve the environment of Huay Yang Nueng Forest in Lopburi Province. Huay Yang Nueng reservoir , within the Huay Yang Nueng Forest, was established in 1979 as one of King Rama IX's ideas, but has been left in dilapidated condition. Various activities were carried out to develop and improve the reservoir, and at the same time protect and preserve the forest.

  1. Watergate improvement
  2. Trees planting of 1.44 acres in learning center area
  3. Landscape and canal improvement for 1.5 km
  4. Release of 99,999 fresh water fish

Mangrove tree-planting campaign (Cebu Mitsumi)

In July 2017, as part of environmental activities at the Cebu Plant, 146 people including employees and their families, and participants from cooperating factories, planted 14,000 mangrove seedlings on the tidal flats of Danao City, where Cebu Plant is located. This is the eighth occasion since mangrove tree planting activities of the Cebu Plant began in September 2012, and the total number of trees planted has now reached 32,500.

We will continue to plant trees and proactively protect the environment in order to maintain the ecosystem and to protect the livelihoods of people on the coast.
