Initiatives for Conservation of Biodiversity Back Number (2012)
Back to Latest Initiatives for Conservation of Biodiversity
Basic Approach
In FY2012, the Minebea Group revised its Environmental Policy and added "contribution to the international community" as a new initiative. As part of the initiative, we recognize that our business activities may have an effect on biodiversity and ecosystems, and we will work to conserve nature. One of the important first steps to putting the policy into practice is to research the relation between the Group's business and biodiversity and understand the impact of our business activities. After determining the impact, we plan to study the creation of an action policy for the Group.
Participation in Japan Business Initiative for Biodiversity (JBIB)
In FY2012, in order to better understand the importance of biodiversity protection and the efforts of leading companies, Minebea became a network member of the JBIB, which promotes corporate initiatives to protect biodiversity. Minebea will collaborate with other member companies to research the different approaches and methods to biodiversity protection, and apply the results to its future initiatives.

Discovery and protection of whisk fern within plant site (Fujisawa Plant)
Whisk fern
The whisk fern (Psilotum nudum), a rare member of the pteridophyte botanical group, was discovered on the Fujisawa Plant site. There have been only 10 reports of the fern in Kanagawa Prefecture—where the Fujisawa Plant is located—and this is the first report in Fujisawa City.
Entering the fern's habitat is now prohibited as part of measures to protect it.
