What I wanted to share with you most today is that we have finally arrived at a game-changing era for the Access Solutions (AS) business. I recognize many of you have been asking why we are entering the automotive business at this late timing.
When I became president, I trademarked the term "Electro Mechanics Solutions," which stands for the integration of mechanics and electronics, to show the path we are on. Today, door handles are no longer machined products, but are integrated with electronic devices and are becoming very complex with motors, sensors, and antennas.
Furthermore, latches are becoming E-latches, and mechanisms that automatically open and close doors as well as soft closures are increasingly being installed in luxury vehicles. Traditionally, latches have been a safety and security component, and once a deal was made, it was difficult for new entrants to enter the market because there was no need to change vendors, even if the cost was a little lower. However, now is the time for a game-changing opportunity for us to enter the market as a new vendor with a product that combines motor and latch technologies.
In Europe, we have received so many inquiries that we have had to take selective orders because of the expansion of COVID-19 and the very poor financial situation of our competitors due to the slowdown in the Chinese market, plus the need for products with electronics due to the game change. We are also in an environment where customers are willing to listen to us about price correction, as there are only a limited number of vendors who can supply them.
We hope to take advantage of this unique opportunity.
