ABLIC's delivery of classes to Nagara Elementary School in Otsu City
On Wednesday, October 25, members of ABLIC Corporation gave an online class at Nagara Elementary School in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture.
This delivery class is one of the community contribution activities conducted by ABLIC. The class consisted of three 45-minute lessons for about 120 fifth-grade students at Nagara Elementary School in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture.
(ABLIC introduces and accepts applications for "factory tours and on-site classes" on its Web site).
Since the class was designed for fifth-grade students, the theme and lecture content were discussed several times with their homeroom teacher in advance, and the class was finally titled "The Surprising Appeal of Semiconductors".
The lecture introduces examples familiar to elementary school students, such as what semiconductors are and how semiconductors are used in soccer game balls. The first half was a basic explanation of semiconductors and transistors, and the second half was an application of what was explained in the first half, introducing topics related to semiconductors, diaper sensors using ABLIC's proprietary energy harvesting technology, CLEAN-Boost® technology, and other SDGs practices using actual examples. The presentation was packed with a wide range of topics.
Later, we received a letter of appreciation from the students of Elementary School
Since this was the first time for the lecturers to give classes and lectures to elementary school students, they tried to devise a class format and progression so that the students would be interested in listening to them. The first half of the class included quizzes and discussions, while the second half featured videos of experiments and explanations of semiconductors using topics familiar to elementary school students, such as the SDGs.
The students asked lively questions and opinions, and when asked, "What functions would you like to see in a school bag?" We heard many unique opinions that are typical of elementary school students, such as, "If I am running late, it will take me to school," "If I get lost, it will show me the way," "It will deliver my forgotten items," "It will warn me of danger," and so on.
The homeroom teachers also commented that the class was easy to understand and the students showed a lot of interest in it.
We hope that this class will be an opportunity for each child to learn about the fun of manufacturing and increase their interest in technology.
MinebeaMitsumi Group will continue to maintain a close relationship with local communities through these social contribution activities.
