Minebea Celebrated the Opening of a New J3DD Plant
Minebea Co., Ltd. ("Minebea", Head Office: Miyota-machi, Kitasaku-gun, Nagano, Representative Director, President and CEO: Yoshihisa Kainuma) and its subsidiary, JAPAN 3D DEVICES Co., Ltd. ("J3DD", Head Office: Kashiwazaki-shi, Niigata, President: Tomoyuki Saito), held an opening ceremony upon the completion of the construction of a new plant in Kashiwazaki-shi, Niigata.
In July 2014, Minebea acquired J3DD, a manufacturer of high precision 3D molded thin glasses, including concave mirrors (reflectors) for use in head-up displays ("HUDs") for automobiles, through third party allotment. At the time, J3DD was a subsidiary of Okamoto Glass Co., Ltd. ("Okamoto Glass", Head Office: Kashiwa-shi, Chiba, President and CEO: Tsuyoshi Okamoto). Since then, Minebea has been preparing for the establishment of a mass production system, and on this occasion, a new plant has been completed in Kashiwazaki-shi, Niigata, for full-fledged production.
At the beginning of the ceremony, Mr. Saito, President of J3DD, expressed his gratitude to the city of Kashiwazaki as well as the attendees, and stated, "We will nurture J3DD into a company where employees can work happily and orderly with pride. We will produce products from Kashiwazaki that will impress customers around the world, and will strive to be welcomed by locals."
J3DD has established a mass production system of glass concave mirrors for HUDs so that glass concave mirrors with superior heat resistance and cost performance will replace the conventional concave mirrors for HUDs that mainly used plastic injection parts.
Currently, there are 15 employees (as of the end of January 2015), but this number will be increased to about 45 around the end of March, 2016. The system will be enhanced while scrutinizing the production schedule.
With the start of production by J3DD at the new plant , local employment will be promoted and efforts will be made for business expansion.
