Mr. Susumu Fujisawa, President of Minebea's Manufacturing Subsidiary in China, Receives the Shanghai Municipal Award of Environmental Protection for Individuals

On May 27, 2004, Mr. Susumu Fujisawa, President of Minebea Electronics & Hi-Tech Components (Shanghai) Ltd. (hereinafter "Shanghai Minebea"), a manufacturing subsidiary in China of Minebea Co., Ltd. (hereinafter "Minebea"), received the Shanghai Municipal Award of Environmental Protection for Individuals from Shanghai Municipal Environmental Protection Agency.

This award is granted every other year to commend organizations and individuals that have made an outstanding contribution to environmental protection. This year, the award has been granted to 38 organizations and 63 individuals. Mr. Fujisawa is the only foreign individual to receive the award this year.

Since its launch of operations in October 1994, Shanghai Minebea has taken all possible measures to ensure environmental protection.

1. Because of its location near Lake Dianshan-hu, which is the principal source of drinking water for the residents of Shanghai, Shanghai Minebea's plants are equipped with advanced wastewater treatment facilities that have automated monitoring systems, enabling 24-hour supervision of facility operations.
2. In 1996, Shanghai Minebea established the Shanghai-Minebea Lake Dianshan-hu Environmental Protection Fund (the amount fund 11 million yuan or about 146 million yen) with the aim of helping preserve the quality of the water in Lake Dianshan-hu and the environment of the surrounding area. To date, the activities of the Fund include helping promote greening programs in Shanghai such as planting cherry tree saplings along nearby highway and donating saplings to the Shanghai Sapling Center, and installing chemical toilets in local residences.
3. The State Environmental Protection Administration of China selected Shanghai Minebea on August 4, 2003 as one of the top 100 projects of national environmental protection. Shanghai Minebea ranked fourth (first as the Japanese company) among the 77 companies selected nation-wide.
   The Top 100 Projects of National Environmental Protection aims to select and grant awards to the top 100 most ecologically-minded companies in China that operate environment-friendly facilities constructed during the period from January 1997 to August 2002.
4. In June 2003, Shanghai Municipal Environmental Protection Agency selected Shanghai Minebea as one of the eight exemplary companies that are totally committed to environmental protection in Shanghai.

 We consider the captioned award granted to Mr. Fujisawa is another proof that the Chinese Government has highly rated the efforts made by Shanghai Minebea toward environmental protection.
