ABLIC acquires development process certification for ISO 26262 Automotive Functional Safety standards from a third-party German certification company

ABLIC (President: Seiji Tanaka; Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Hereinafter "ABLIC"), a group company of the MinebeaMitsumi Group, has acquired ISO 26262 (*2) Automotive.
Functional Safety (*1) standards development process certification from third-party German certification company SGS-TÜV Saar GmbH.

The proliferation of ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) and autonomous driving systems has increased demand for safety features that ensure automotive safety and security in the global market, and has also increased the requirements for higher levels of performances in automotive components. ISO 26262 was established in 2011 as an international standard for the functional safety of electric and electronic devices for road vehicles. Our acquisition of ISO 26262 development process certification serves as recognition that ABLIC's IC development process is capable of developing products up to the highest safety level ASIL D.

Mr. Lisson Yan, Managing Director of SGS Japan, and Mr. Tanaka, Representative Director and President of ABLIC, made the following comments at the ISO 26262 certification ceremony.

Mr. Lisson Yan, Managing Director of SGS Japan

"The proliferation of autonomous driving systems, electric vehicles, and other new technologies has made functional safety more important than ever as automotive systems continue to rapidly develop. It is especially crucial that the semiconductor devices which manage how automotive systems are controlled and operated fulfill obligations for safety accountability. It is against this background that ABLIC has acquired ASIL D development process certification which is the ISO 26262 Automotive standard with the strictest safety requirements. ABLIC's functional safety compliant products will significantly contribute to the safe design of future automotive systems as automotive systems continue to increase in complexity."

Mr. Seiji Tanaka, Representative Director and President of ABLIC

"ABLIC has maintained a long-term commitment to the automotive semiconductor products field. We realized early on that customer requirements for functional safety compliance would continue to grow with the introduction of autonomous driving systems and electric vehicles, and we focused our efforts in this field accordingly. We will utilize the momentum provided by this acquisition of ISO 26262 ASIL D development process certification to continue to develop the high safety products required by customers. With this, we are confident that ABLIC's semiconductor products can continue to contribute to both automotive and user safety to a greater degree than ever before."

(*2) ISO 26262: An international standard for functional safety of automotive electronic control systems which was officially established in November 2011. It standardizes development processes aimed at achieving "functional safety" by calculating the risk of failure in automotive electronic control systems and devising measures to lower those risks and integrate those risk reduction measures into systems as functionality in advance. The standard covers the entire vehicle development life cycle from initial vehicle conceptualization to development, production, maintenance, and disposal of systems, ECU, embedded software, and devices.
